Here's
where it gets a little complicated.
Some
criminal records are available to the general public; others are not. This
often comes down to the specific record. For example, some states allow the
general public access to criminal records of another person, but no background
check on the person.
Therefore,
we must think of it this way:
A
background check can tell a person, bankruptcy, after filing for divorce, and
living in a particular street. Depending on how deep it is, it could also show
if the person is a criminal or was arrested for drunk driving.
A
criminal background check will be informed about tattoos and other identifying
marks; Specific arrests and convictions; and probation and prison sentences.
Some
states, employers and others use these terms and criminal background check and
background check interchangeably.
YOU
You
probably already know if you've committed crimes in the past, but if you are
curious about what is actually in existence, or a potential employer, you must
provide an official copy of your story, you can apply their own criminal
record.
Ask criminal record
You,
or any agency with legal permission or right, you can access their criminal
records in a local, state or federal.
You
can check with:
•
The county sheriff's department or office of the clerk of the court.
•
State government offices such as the Department of Public Security, Department
of State Police and the State Bureau of Investigation.
•
The Federal Bureau of Investigation. Usually, it is much broader criminal
records and fingerprints required.
If
you're not sure where to start, try the website of the Freedom of Information
Act (FOIA). Click on the search page, search for "criminal record"
(been there to put their best results), and check out the pages of government
provided for in the results.
Orders criminal records online
Many
companies advertise their third purchase online criminal records.
Note that these
companies can only provide the kind of information that allows the state and
federal law. So, while you can get some information about the person's
background or criminal records, may not be everything.
